Samsung Galaxy S25: Samsung is reportedly making a significant shift for its upcoming Galaxy S25 series by exclusively using Snapdragon chips, driven primarily by the need for superior AI capabilities. This decision contrasts earlier expectations of the series being powered by Samsung’s Exynos chips.
Why Samsung is Sticking with Snapdragons for the Samsung Galaxy S25
Traditionally, Samsung has used both its Exynos chips and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors for the Galaxy S series, with different models being released in various regions. However, according to a new report from Korea, the Galaxy S25 series will exclusively feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip across all regions.
Earlier this year, Samsung introduced the Exynos 2500, which many believed would power the Galaxy S25. However, respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested back in June that production inefficiencies with the Exynos 2500 might push Samsung to rely solely on Snapdragon processors. Now, it appears that AI capabilities are the decisive factor in this choice. Samsung aims to maintain its competitive edge in smartphone AI, especially with Apple gearing up to enhance its AI features with the iPhone 16.
The Exynos 2500 isn’t being discarded entirely. According to the same report, this chip will power the next generation of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip devices, marking a departure from the Snapdragon processors typically used in these models.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is expected to launch in January 2025, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, which Qualcomm plans to release in October 2024.
